The Media Review Network strongly condemns Israel’s recent move to recognise Somaliland as an independent entity.
This development is not merely a diplomatic gesture but a calculated geopolitical manouver that threatens regional stability and undermines the sovereignty of Somalia.
Israel’s recognition of Somaliland is part of a broader strategy to expand its geopolitical influence in the Horn of Africa, a region already grappling with complex security challenges.
This decision violates international norms and disregards the African Union’s consistent position on the territorial integrity of Somalia.
By legitimising secessionist ambitions, Israel is fueling fragmentation and instability in a region that desperately needs unity and cooperation.
Such actions risk emboldening other separatist movements, creating a dangerous precedent that could destabilise the entire continent.
Further, this recognition is not driven by altruism or support for self-determination.
It is rooted in Israel’s pursuit of strategic military and economic footholds, including access to the Red Sea and control over vital maritime routes.
These ambitions align with Western powers’ neo-colonial designs, which continue to exploit Africa’s vulnerabilities for geopolitical gain.
MRN calls on the African Union, the United Nations, and all peace-loving nations to reject this provocative move and reaffirm Somalia’s territorial integrity.
Africa does not need more ‘states’ and must resist external interference that seeks to divide and dominate.
The Horn of Africa should be a zone of peace, not a playground for foreign powers.
